Flowers series --- Ongoing project

This series began in 2017. Each year, a friend would bring me flowers for my birthday, and we would spend the evening drinking whisky. The following morning, I woke in the blue light before dawn and saw the flowers my wife had arranged in a vase. The moist, silken petals seemed to hold something of her presence. I realized then that a portrait does not have to depict a person’s face or body. Form, color, and light can also carry the impression of someone.
Since then, my approach has continued to evolve. The flowers no longer represent only particular women or men. Through light, matter, shadow, and time, they embody memory, desire, vulnerability, and transformation—as well as my own attitude toward what stands before the camera.
These are portraits without likeness: forms through which presence becomes visible.
